Ellen Kahan

Ellen Kahan, a ceramic artist and teacher works in stoneware clay. Her high fired dinnerware pieces are great for gifts and every day use. Ellen studied in Japan with Bernard Leach in St. Ives, England, She has pieces exhibited throughout the United States and France,

Ellen is now teaching middle and upper school ceramics at Brooklyn Friends School. 

She runs the ceramics studio as a professional space for students to experience all aspects of clay making from using a pug mill to make clay, to making glazes from scratch with a metric scale.

She wants students to feel the joy and accomplishment in turning mud to creative and fun projects with coils, slabs, and sculpture.

Her high school class all work on the potter's wheel and become proficient enough with it to complete a dinnerware set by the end of the school year.
